About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he's leaving for a while. He's going to visit his sister, who's in the same apartment as Hiro and Megu. The narrator says that he thinks about all the horrible things that have happened to his family, and he can't even imagine life without them. He says that it's his fault that people have died, but he doesn't know why. He promises to explain it to his sister once he gets back to her apartment. He also says that if he goes to the mansion, he might find some of the people who were infected but didn't get sick. He wants to go north to find his friends, but the narrator says he needs to find a way to get there. He asks the narrator what he means by "north" , and the narrator explains that it means "running away from home" . He tells the narrator that he often comes to the same place to eat and get off his bicycle, and to take down his bicycle as well. He then tells him that he has a three-year-old girl with him, and that she is his "dearest and cutest little girl . .almost three years old." The narrator is amazed that the narrator would lie to him like that, and asks him if he'd tell his friends about it. He adds that they owe him a lot of money from gambling bets, so he wants to leave as soon as possible. When the narrator asks him what he should do, the narrator tells him to go to the mahjong parlor, where he'll be able to get some money. The two men start to leave, but they're surrounded by a wall, which makes them feel like they are trapped
