About This Chapter
In this short scene, Ward tries to find a friend of his who might be able to help him find a way to get out of the mess he's in. He's worried that the friend might try to take advantage of him, but Ward reassures him that he'll be fine. Ward tells the friend that he was worried about the friend's reputation, but he doesn't tell the friend about it. The friend tells Ward that it's too late for him to go looking for the friend, so he leaves. Ward says that he wishes the friend were more like the kind of guy who'd try to steal from him. Ward asks the friend if he'd like to stay at his place for the night, but the friend says he can't, since he has nowhere else to go. He also says that if the locksmith breaks the lock on his apartment, it'll take him a long time to get back there. The locksmith says that's a good idea, but that he has to go back to Ward's house to get the lock broken. Ward is horrified to find out that the locksmith has broken into his house. He says that the lock is so important that he would rather pay the locksmith to break it into his own house than pay to have someone else do it for him. He
