The scene opens with a flashback to the events of the previous chapter, in which we learn that the "new mem" had been flirting with the "old mem," and that the two had been invited to the "bers' event" . The scene then shifts to the present day, where the young woman is in the middle of a conversation with her new boyfriend, who is a "big city uni-versity student" and a "sophist" , a term used to describe a person who is not a member of a particular social group. The young woman tells her boyfriend that she is in love with him, and that she wants to be with him. The "new" boyfriend, however, is not interested in her, and she does not want to be associated with him in any way, shape, or form.
