The narrator says he's sure he'll be able to pull it off, but dump says he wants to be sure he doesn't "kiss too much" . He wants to make sure he can "hold back" when he has to do something like this. He's thinking about how he can do this, and he thinks about how to do it in a way that'll make him feel better. He thinks about what it would be like if he had to do this at the office, and how he'd feel better if he could just "slip" and "just touch" each other. He also thinks about the fact that if he does this at home, it's going to be painful, so he thinks he should do it at work.
