In this chapter, we are introduced to a new character, Shu-Bing, who is a member of a group of young men who have just been hired to work for a company. He has come to the company to help prepare for a union with another company, but he is not allowed to go because he is a "boy" and therefore not eligible to be a "girl" . He asks his friend, Iwabuchi, to come and help him prepare for the union, and he is pleased to find that he is able to do so. The two men discuss the upcoming union, which is to take place on Friday, and Shu says that he will be late for the mixer because he has to prepare for another union. He then apologizes for his rudeness, and apologizes again for not being able to attend the mixer. He says that the union will be a trial, and that he wants to see if he can "date" Shu for real.
