In this short scene, the young narrator introduces us to a number of characters, including his mother, his younger brother, and his sister-in-law, who are all introduced in the first person. The young narrator asks his mother if she would like to have dinner with him, and she says she would, but that the food would take longer than she expected. She then asks his sister if she'd like to go for a bath first, and he says he's been sweating a lot, so he'd probably like to do that first. He then asks her if she likes to eat spicy food, and her response is that she does, but she doesn't like to eat too spicy food. He tells her that he'll be able to get her more if she wants to, and that she'll have a lot of seconds to eat more of the food if she wanted to. She tells him that her home is the best home she's ever been to, because it's so good, and the food is so good that she can't wait to eat it again. She also tells him about her younger brother who comes over sometimes, and how she used to work as a cook at her mother's house, so she knows a thing or two about cooking. She asks if he likes to cook, too, and when he says yes, she says he does, too. Then she asks him if he is used to cooking at home. He says he is, and then she tells him how much she likes cooking, and says that she has a younger brother that comes over occasionally. She says that her mother worked at the house, and so she cooks a lot.
