The narrator tells us that he's going to buy some new clothes for his upcoming date with Rebecca. He's so happy to be holding Rebecca's hand while they're shopping that he can't wait to tell her about it. He also tells her that he hasn't seen her since the day she dumped him. He asks if she's on a date with someone else, and she says yes. He then asks if Rebecca has wrapped her gift for him. Rebecca says no, and then she tells the story of how she wanted to buy new lingerie for her birthday. She says that she had to make it a special occasion and then put it away because she'd never had the courage to do such a thing before. Rebecca is so happy that she doesn't want to talk about it, but she does want to know why she did it. The narrator says that he always thought that someone like him couldn't really do much, and now he wants to try harder. He wants to challenge himself.
