In this chapter, we are introduced to Little Em'ly, who has just returned from a trip to the seashore. He finds a clay figurine lying on the ground, and he begs his master to return it to him. He says that he will never see his brother again if he tells him the truth about what happened to the clay. He promises to buy him a new one if he likes it. He also reveals that he has made a lantern for the festival, but that it is still a long way from completion. He asks his brother if he can see what he is hiding from him.
