Back at the base, the boys tell the captain that the wound on his foot is getting worse and that he needs to rest before they can return to the camp. The captain tells the boys to go back and report what they find to the chief, but that they are still in danger. The boys are not sure whether they should stay or not, and the captain tells them that he and the other soldiers are like "straightest men" in the world. The other soldiers tell the boys that they need to prepare for the arrival of the second post, which is even more fortified than the first. The third post is equipped with high explosive ammunition. The men decide to go check out the third post.
