In this chapter, we learn that the chief has been bitten by a "worm's bodily fluid" during the fight with the undead, and that he has been forced to cut off his arm in an effort to protect himself from infection. The doctor tells the chief that he must be quarantined, and the chief refuses to be put in quarantine.
