Back in the village, Fang tells everyone that his wife and son have turned into "zombies" . They're no longer his "wife and son anymore" , he says, and he can't abandon them. He's got a gun, but he's too scared of the undead to carry it with him. Fang says that the chains are rusty, and the undead will bite him and kill him if he tries to fight them head-on. He says that he often goes to the village gate to see if he can find some people who need food. He finds a teenage boy, hao, who needs food, and Fang says he'll get him some food soon. Fang and his brother-in-law find a punctured tyre, so they check the road and find lots of nails. Fang swears that if anyone tries to hurt his wife or son, he will kill them.
