The scene opens with a flashback to the night of the murder. It's now after midnight, and the Governess and her students are still in their hiding place. The Governess asks the students why they're still harassing her, and they tell her that she's not in her right mind. She tells the students that they need to stop being so mean to each other, and she tells them that she wants them to stop acting like this is normal behavior. She also tells the children that she doesn't want to see them die, and that she expects nothing more from them. The students are shocked and confused. They don't know what to do, and when they try to get help, they can't get it. They're afraid that they'll be shot, and then they realize that they can barely move because of the shock of the attack.
