About This Chapter
The two men are talking in the back of the truck, and the narrator asks if they should keep going on with the rescue mission. The narrator says they should, because it's their job to get to the girl, and he's grateful for the job they've done for him. He's worried that they're not going to be able to get there in time, so they should just run away. The man says he'll just make her disappear, but the narrator doesn't want to hear it, so he starts yelling at the girl to run. The girl runs away, panting, and says she can't go on like this anymore, so the narrator says she should just leave. He says she's not helpful, and that she just gets in the way of them getting to her. He calls the girl a "bastard" and says he would have beaten the girl down if she hadn't been in his way, if she weren't there to help him. The boy says he couldn't get anything to eat, and it'd be like "ckin' la what the superhero it is" . He also says that the boy got smacked and vomited once, which makes him even more angry. He asks the man if he can help him, but he says he won't, because he'd rather sleep in the car and not do anything. The men start arguing again, and this time the narrator calls the man a "geezer" and a "bagpiper" , which is a term used to describe a person who's been watching a lot of animated movies. He tells the man to knock whatever he does to get the girl out of the car, and then it should just be easy for him to get her out of there, since the girl is so crazy. The two of them argue again,
