About This Chapter
The cat asks if something happened at school while she was gone. She thinks that she and the boy got along well, but she's not sure. She's going to go her own way, she says. The cat thinks that the boy is being mean because he's afraid of being kicked out of the school. He tells her to hurry and leave, and she agrees. She thanks her grandma for everything, and says she'll come see her again. She tells the cat to get dressed, and then she tells him to eat some potatoes. She asks him if he can talk, and he tells her that he'd rather not be touched. She then asks him when he got to the school, and the cat says that he rode on a bus all the way there, and that he didn't notice the boy on the bus. He asks if he might have been chosen to go with him, and when she says no, he asks if she might want to go home with him. She says that she'd like to wait until the girl finds out that she is the cat, and they'll be late. She wants to know why he was there, so she wakes him up to ask. He says he woke up because he wanted to ask her why she was there. He's the one who chose to follow them, he says, and now he has no choice but to meet with him
