It's been a long time since the last chapter, and now we're back in the present tense. We're introduced to the narrator, who tells us that he's just woken up from a long nap. He's not sure what time it is, but he feels like he has been sleeping for a while, so he calls the taxi. The narrator tells us to call the taxi, because the woman on the other side of the room is looking for her husband. She's sorry that she's making her visit pointless, but she doesn't want her baby to be upset, so she tells the woman to stop being so rude. The woman is shocked, because she knows that her husband will be home soon, and she wants to make sure that he isn't there. But she can't find him. She sighs and says that she won't ever find him, and that she will never find him either. She asks the woman why she came to see her husband, and the woman tells her that she knew that she would be angry, and so she came anyway. She also tells her mother-in-law that she gave her opium, and paid someone to do it.
