In this chapter, the narrator tells the story of the Ming family's attempt to win the emperor's hand in marriage. The Ming family, led by Ming's father, tried to convince the emperor to select a concubine for his daughter, but the emperor refused. Ming and his father went to see the emperor and found out that his daughter was still alive. Ming tells the narrator that he should go to the palace and tell the guards to prepare their horses so that they can enter.
