In this chapter, we learn that the red-shirted man is the "Red-Shirted Ghost" , and that he has come to take the blood of the little girl. The girl's name is "Lass wang" and she is the daughter of a local man named "Master wang." When the man recovered from his wounds, he promised to marry the girl, but the girl developed red rashes and the villagers suspected her of having a contagious disease. The villagers tied her up and put her in a coffin with intention of smothering her. The man returned and killed everyone involved, including the girl.
