In this chapter, we are introduced to the protagonist, a young man named Goro, who is a member of the Ku Klux Klan. He is also known as a serial killer, a nickname he picked up when he was a teenager. Goro explains that he is the first person he has ever killed, and that he has dealt with this problem himself. He tells the protagonist that he heard someone crying and decided to check out the situation. The protagonist is horrified at the idea of killing a pig, but he decides that he will not kill the pig since he will have someone else to kill him with.
