In this chapter, we are introduced to a young man named Hiroyuki, who has just returned from his first trip to America. He is a student at an elementary school called "Machida" in the Los Angeles suburb of Silverdale. He has been attending school for 13 years, and he is very fond of his classmates. One day, Hiroyuki's mother comes to visit him, and Hiroyuki tells her that his mother's drunken behavior has made him angry with her. She begs him not to hurt her son, but he refuses, saying that he has sacrificed his life for her and her son. He tells his mother that he will not do it again.
