This chapter's epigraph comes from a conversation between the "Esteemed Deity" and the "Mirror Lake" . Deity tells the guy that he's lost consciousness and wants to report back to him. He's worried that the "fair wind scroll" is responding to the "divine realm" , and he wants to know if xianzi is at the lake. Unsure of what's going on, Deity goes up to the lake to find out. Confused, he tells Deity that if he returns to the divine world, he'll never see him again. He also tells him that if they go back on their word, they'll be executed. He says that even if a god won't take him away from him, they can always face each other in the afterlife together.
