About This Chapter
This chapter opens with the master of the wind-scroll, the immortal quintuple, asking the disciple of xianzi how long it has been since he was punished. The disciple replies that it probably has been thousands of years. The master tells the disciple that he has already condemned the disciple for his crimes. He then asks the disciple to rustle up the matter he had him investigate. The subordinate found no traces of a snake near the cliff, and the master blames the junior brother for raising the snake. He says that the fate of the water-scale town rests on the eighth day of the month, which falls on the 8 th of every month. Every year, on this day, the god comes to spread fortune in the town. Everyone brings along a bamboo basket to carry the fish that he bestows on them. The young master says that it is better to have a bigger container than a smaller one, so he brings a wicker basket
