About This Chapter
The ghost tells the boy that he can't go to the fireworks with him because he's already lost his mind. He's also worried about the letter, which is still blank. The ghost says that the boy should cross the bridge of forgetfulness and find someone to sleep with. He says that if the boy doesn't do so, he'll become a bad spirit. He blames himself for the boy's lack of memory. He admits that he was too stupid to believe the ghost's story, but he blames his own stupidity for causing the boy to be so forgetful. It's a pity, the ghost says, that no one will ever be able to resolve the letter. The boy says that he thought it was the saddest thing for him, but that it was also the thing that made him most happy. He adds that the ghost was supposed to bring him food, but instead, he took him to a remote place and brought him to such a place that he didn't know what to do with himself. He asks if the ghost is hiding something from him, and the boy tells him that he won't tell him until he apologizes. The two of them leave the woods and look for a place to rest.
