This chapter opens with the sound of a thunderbolt, followed by a roar. The sound of the thunderbolt shatters the cage in which Cai Ling is being held. Cai Ling, who is pregnant, rushes in to open the cage. She tells Cai Ling that she has done what fate asked her to do. She says that she is afraid that even the most precious medicine cannot save her from the clutches of the beast. She asks Cai Ling to look after Cai Ling's child so that she may return to her husband. She also asks her husband to help her escape from the cage
