In this chapter, we are introduced to a number of characters who have been introduced in the previous chapters. The first person introduced in this chapter is the daughter of a wealthy slave owner. She is the mother of a young boy who has been kidnapped and sold into slavery. The second person introduced is the sister of another wealthy slave. The third person introduces himself as the son of a woman who was once a prostitute. The fourth person introduces herself as the brother of another man who was a slaveholder. The fifth person introduces itself as the father of a man who has recently been released from prison. The sixth person is introduced as the uncle of another slave who was recently released from captivity. The seventh person introduced himself as a relative of the owner of the house where the young boy was kidnapped. The eighth person introduces him as the nephew of another woman who had been a prostitute in the past.
