This chapter opens with a soliloquy by Caius Mingus, a Mingus nobleman. Mingus asks Caius why he didn't say anything to him at the banquet, and Caius replies that he was too overjoyed to say anything. Caius then asks why he suddenly wants to see Caius, and he says that his feelings for Caius are growing, and that he wants Caius to be his concubine. He tells Caius that Caius is testing Caius's feelings for him, but Caius doesn't know what to do, so Caius asks for a hug, and then Caius tells him that he has a beauty with him right now and he has no time to wait for him. He then asks if Caius wants to give his maidservant a title first, or else his reputation will be ruined if something happens to her, and she says that she's not pretty, but that she used to serve Caius and is no longer serving him. She says that the Mingus misunderstood her, because she is not pretty. She also says that her relationship with Caius has changed, and now that she is a mistress, Caius isn't interested in her anymore. He says that he'll let the whole thing rest on his own accord.
