Back at the palace, Madame Bovary is still waiting for her husband. She's still not happy with the way things are going between her and the emperor. She tells him that she's going to have to call him by his full name when they're alone, and that she won't be able to do it again. He's not happy about that, and he tells her that she can call him "yaner" like an old marquis. He also says that he'll "gross you out" by calling her like that. He tells her she can do whatever she wants with him, but she can't talk about the marquis as well as she can talk about him. The emperor is looking for her. He wants to see her immediately.
