The next day, Fang tells the students that he and his family will leave for the West to seek protection from the large army. He tells them that he has heard that some of the local vigilantes have formed a doomsday squad, and that they have saved many civilians. He says that he wants to follow them, look for his parents, and call him when he needs his help. The next morning, there is no sign of habitation at the villa. Fang wonders why the people who had stayed in the villa before had to leave. He hopes that they can remember that even though they are in chaos, they are still humans.
