This chapter opens with a flashback to the beginning of the book, in which cheng Songchi explains that he is using the name cheng wang-hong to disguise his identity. Worried that he has lost his identity, he asks the boy to confirm the identity of his friend. Unsure of what to do, the boy asks cheng if he can kill him first, then his own body. Believing that the boy is hiding, cheng tells him that if he does not come out, he will kill both of them first. The boy is impressed by the urgency of the situation. He asks wang if he cares about the boy's life now that he knows that he will die, and wang replies that he does. Confused, ungraciously, wang tells the boy that he can let him go this time, but that he cannot trust him. He tells him to take a vow of allegiance to the school, or else his soul will be destroyed. . He says that he wants to protect the world, and that the school is one step ahead of the rest of the world. He claims that the people of the school do not know what they are fighting against, because they do not have enough power to do anything about it.
