About This Chapter
In this chapter, the young narrator reflects on the death of his father. He remembers that he was a "man of few words" when he was born, and that he has not seen his mother since then. He recalls that his mother grew up in the traditional family and that she received a good education. When he met his father, the two men were very harsh to one another, and the narrator thinks that this was the reason why he did not see his mother for many years. He thinks that since then, in his mother's eyes, the world has "faded away" and that his father has "scattered all" of his possessions. The narrator realizes that he is in a "stream of people" in front of him, and he suddenly realizes that the color of the sky and the clouds is the same color as his father's painting.
