In this chapter, we find out that the narrator's mother is also a fan of drawing. She tells the narrator that she wishes her son could pursue his dream of becoming a professional artist. The narrator is amazed at her mother's lack of interest in her son's education, and wonders why she would want to prevent him from pursuing his dream. He also wonders if it is more important to build a skill than to develop a love for a book.
