This chapter opens with a conversation between a young woman and a street artist. The young woman is complaining about the lack of work she has been forced to do because of her family's poverty. The street artist interrupts her to tell her that he has heard the speaker of the school's music speak too loudly, and the young woman wonders aloud why the speaker is so loud.
