Three years have passed since the events of the previous chapter. Mr. Lu has gone to the company to pick up his friend, Mr. Ming, who is the eldest son of the company's chairman. The two men have not seen each other for two years, but they have agreed to meet again on the following evening at a restaurant in Shanghai. Lu asks if he can treat Ming to a meal, but Ming refuses, saying that he already has a prior arrangement with him.
