In this chapter, the narrator explains that the recent spate of car-related murders is actually a form of serial homicide, in which the killer chooses intersections with no one around to commit his crimes. He explains that he is the first witness to these crimes, and that if he can provide information that leads to the capture of the killer, the police will offer a reward of one million dollars. The narrator is shocked that the police have such a large case, since he is a "genius" in the "sleuth community" and he would not want to meet such a "psychotic killer ever again"
