The next day, the mask magician asks the young woman if she would like to perform with him. The young woman says that she has never been on a stage before, so she is nervous. The mask magician tells her that there are still other performances in the carnival that he hasn't yet performed, and that she should come back tomorrow to see them. After that, she goes to the carnival every day to watch the show. The business of the mask troupe has been taken away from her, she says. She tells the young man that she is going to be his assistant. He says that he has decided to devote his life to magic and that he will cheer her on every day. A week later, she becomes an assistant. The two men discuss the possibility of joining the troupe together.
