The young master of Lin's mansion, Mr. Xia, is exhausted from his fight with the old man. He has come to buy a rare jade from the rich man's grand ancestor, who told him about it in his dream. The jade is of advanced spiritual basalt, which is valued at 1,000 taels. The young man thinks that the jade is a gift for his grandfather, who is going to visit his old friend. The old man, however, has reserved the jade for another customer, who has not yet paid for it. The man is a vicious vendor, the young master says, and the stone is not worth the price it is being offered for. He is sure that the young man is bullying the innocent. He goes to fetch the jade, but he is interrupted by the arrival of Mr. Xie, who wants to buy the stone for his grandson.
