In this chapter, we learn that Shmoop hates forests because they are full of strange creatures that jump up and give him a fright. We learn that the signal from the spider was lost, and that the probability of finding his comrades was even greater than 000. He asks the little girl if she knows where the enemy is, and she tells him that she does. He tells her that he will let her experience pain that she will never forget, and then asks her to tell him the names of the seven creatures who came to catch him. She tells him they searched all along the way, and he says that they must have passed through wind-valley village and antelope-horn village. He says that if a fight breaks out, he will take the blame for all of the pain that the beast says. He then tells the girl that he did not kill many of the beast spirits along their way, but that he was the one who killed the final one. He also tells her he asked her to give him the name of the ghost muskderer, and the girl says that she did not know who he was. He laughs at her and says that he would not dare lie to her, and they fought for a full day, although they didn't know who killed it. They finally killed her, but she was full of holes in her body, and ash silver pierced through her entire body. He calls her a bastard, and says he will kill her if she refuses to fight him.
