About This Chapter
The narrator is on his way back to the store when he runs into a buffet restaurant. The manager asks him to eat his competitor's food, but the narrator says he knows two other people who have huge appetites, so he'll pay for their food. He's counting on the manager, and he's worried that business is tough these days. Shocke comes out of the restaurant and tells the narrator that something's happened. The narrator says that he would've chased the two cats if he'd seen them, but he doesn't seem to be immune to the dangers of the earth. He says that although he isn't afraid of the alien cats, he is not immune to dangerous things on earth. The two cats decide to stay inside the house to look after it, and the narrator promises to bring them some food when they return. The landlord says that there is no one at the house right now, and that they should have plenty of time to search the house. He tells the tenant that he can't find anyone in the house, but that proves that there's a problem in the place. The tenant says that the two mastiffs attacked him, but they didn't attack him. He had prepared special buns for them, hoping that they'd be able to move closer, but instead they got angry and smacked the buns away. He spent two hours with them, and now the landlord is giving them the same buns again, asking them for a beating.
