The narrator tells us that the house where he lives is not well connected by public transportation and that it is an older house than his father's house. He says that someone actually wanted to break into the house, and that someone has found out about his stash of six dollars and the red-star liquor behind his cabinet. He also says that he will stand guard outside once someone enters the house and greet him however he wants. The voice of the intruder comes from the garden. The narrator asks the intruder where he came from, and the intruder tells him that he came to rent a room in the house. The intruder also tells the narrator that he did not expect his face to look so much like a monster. He then tells the intruder that his name is "miedie" and that he is the owner of a private cinema. The brother asks the narrator to stay away from the intruder, but the narrator says he would rather stay away than let the intruder get away with it. He tells the brother that he can rent the house for 200 yuan more, and he promises to give him everything.
