This chapter's epigraph comes from a line in the book's first chapter, which states that a circle is "a cage" and that those who are trapped in it are "extremely evil" . In other words, those who have been caged by the circle are extremely dangerous. The chapter ends with a soliloquy by the protagonist, in which he explains that he is trapped in a dangerous place and that he will not destroy the circle, but will simply let the villains know that he has the power to break through and escape. He also warns the protagonist not to be fooled by the appearance of people in the circle. He tells the protagonist to lower the voice and smell the wine, which is very strong. The protagonist is almost drunk by smelling the wine. He wonders if the protagonist is an ordinary person, but the protagonist tells him that this is not the case. He says that the protagonist's skill is not as bad as the man's, but that the man is only an "ordinary person" who is just trying to steal wine from the cellar. He asks the protagonist if he wants to talk, and the protagonist agrees to do so.
