This chapter opens with a discussion between the two generals about whether or not the marriage of the princess will make the yans friendly with the lins. The generals are worried about the military situation in the country. They don't have enough money to wage war, and the sceptre is empty. Plus, the royal family doesn't like the idea of giving the military power back to lin. The lin's doctor tells the generals that the wedding will take place in three days, and that the envoy from yan country has already arrived at the royal palace.
