In this chapter, the narrator reflects on his life. He says that he works hard when he should be happy and gives up freedom when he is told to. This is his life before. He asks the teacher if he has finished his paper. The teacher tells him that it is nonsense and that he should borrow the paper. He then asks the student to stand up and explain what has happened. He tells the student that he is the teacher of the class and that the students should not be allowed to help him. The student apologizes and tells the teacher that he has elective courses so he cannot help the teacher. The professor tells him to be careful since he offended the teacher earlier in the day. He also tells him not to worry about the class since the students are still at school. The students are afraid that they will get caught and that it will be the last time they will see the professor.
