The narrator tells the story of how he came to live at the house of his best friend's grandmother. He was just graduating from college and didn't yet have a job. His friend had just had a financial crisis and offered him the job of taking care of her grandmother's house. The narrator was shocked at the offer, since he had never heard of her family before. The house was very well equipped, with aircon, a bedroom big enough for him to sleep in, and a large garden with flowers in every room.
