In this chapter, we learn that the girl, who we first meet in the opening scene, is named xinxin, and that she is the daughter of a famous photographer. We learn that her father, the famous photographer , has taken her to a waterfall in order to take her father's college entrance exam. Intrigued by the story, the girl asks her father why he has taken the exam, and he tells her that he has been taking the exam to support his daughter's decision to take the exam. The girl, however, does not believe him, and she tells him that she has not seen her mother close to anyone. She also tells the girl that her mother always supports her family's travels abroad in order that they may find their way back to China. .
