About This Chapter
It's the middle of the night, and the professor has asked the assistant to leave. The assistant says she's not allowed to go because she looks like a bunny. The professor asks the assistant if she'd like to help him with some equipment, and she says no, but that she'll be more than happy to help if he'll let her in. He asks her to close the door, but she doesn't want to, so she leaves. She tells the professor that she was the one to break the rules, and he apologizes. He tells her that he's going to blame her if anything happens to her. He says that when he first started out as an assistant, a lot of teams wanted to recruit him to their team. The coach was very secretive, and they wanted to "jump ship" together. He's a phony, he says. The fall contest is coming up, and if he quits the team now, the coach will give him a year's ban. The two of them are relieved, because they're in the same dormitory. They're going to have a late snack together. They don't know each other yet, but they know that they'll get into trouble if they leave the team.
