The scene opens in the lobby of the theater, where the students are waiting for the curtain to rise. The students hide in a daze while the curtain rises. The narrator tells the students that he is going to smoke a cigarette. He tells them not to worry because he is a model student. He also tells them that he has noticed a player playing in an amateur tournament whose style resembles that of a "heart moon" . He asks if she is still in the game, and she replies that she is only good enough after all. He then asks her what she thinks of the two former players. She replies that they are not good enough.
