The narrator tells us that he's lucky to have haru as a friend. He says that he always wonders what it would be like to be without him. He tells us about a game he runs in which he runs a member of the school as a batting partner. The narrator is worried that haru has been put in a new class, but shizuku thinks it's just a temporary arrangement. He asks why haru is standing there. He's holding a chicken, and the chicken hits him in the face. He wipes the chicken off his face, and he says that the school is afraid of him because he does things outside of class that they don't approve of. He adds that he wishes he could touch her hair, but he can't. He wants to throw a surprise party for haru during spring break, but his name means spring, so he won't be able to do so. He wonders if his father was a master before he came to school, and wonders if he could buy him an ingredient for his birthday. He also asks if he has any animal costumes. He doesn't, and says that his birthday memories are all "suck" . He goes on to say that if he didn't think about himself, he wouldn't have wanted to give the tour guide a gift, and that he would have demanded it back. He compares the school to a "den of monsters" , where students are afraid of what they're going to do next.
