The chapter opens with a soliloquy by Kenji, who tells us that he's happy with his life. He says that he grew up "with everything i wanted" , and that anyone who "breaks is a loser" . Kenji then tells us about a girl from his school who asked him to come and see her, and Kenji says that's not the way he'd do it. He also says that the girl told him that she wanted him to ask her to come, but that he had to work hard to get her. He tells Kenji that he told her that he was going to take the winter course because he thought he could keep studying and that he wanted to make sure that he got through to him. He then says that Kenji is the one who is always picking on him, but he still stops following him. The girl is sitting next to Kenji and she says that she's afraid Kenji will leave her behind, and she wants Kenji to treat her like a girl, not like a man. She says that if Kenji treats her like that, she'll leave him behind, too, and they'll never speak to each other again.
