About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a soliloquy by Haruki Murakami, in which he laments his inability to obtain what he wants. He says that he always thought that he had what he wanted, but that if he could give it to someone else, he would be satisfied. One day, he says, he and Haruki were walking along when Haruki suddenly jumps down from a bridge. He doesn't know why Haruki is mad, but he thinks it's because he's so obsessed with Haruki that he can't figure out what's going on between him and the girl. He wonders if she's trying to ally herself with the guys she likes, but she'd be better off just breaking it off with him. Haruki thanks him for his help in the trip, saying that he thinks he did what he was supposed to do. He asks why they're so out of order, and he wonders if it was because they got off to such a bad start. He thinks that they've broken up because they didn't like each other. He wants to go to the school with them, but Haruki won't let him, saying he'll have to tell the whole story on the internet.
