The chapter opens with a description of the coming-of-age ceremony, which is to take place at the end of the school year. The narrator tells us that the ceremony will take place in front of the entire family, and that it will be attended by all of the students from the previous school year, as well as those who have not yet graduated from high school. When the narrator asks where the students are, they reply that they are all going to the ceremony, or graduation, ceremony. He asks where they are going to get their rings, and they tell him that they have found an old friend. He tells them that he has friends, including a beautiful girl and a president of a fashion brand. He says that he used to hate his old friend, but now that he is alive, he is full of hope for the future.
