About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a flashback to the previous chapter, in which we learn that the fire department has a cooking-duty rotation and that kyosuke is also a cook. The flashback shows that the boys in the school are ignoring the girl because she's older and more likely to be ignored by the younger boys. When the flashback is over, the narrator tells us that he's late for his club meeting and that the festival is only a few weeks away. He's bummed that he can't go to the festival because it's too late for him to be a part of the festival culture. He wants to go back to his club training. He tells us he doesn't know how to respond to the class rep's "la nasty mouth" . The class rep has a nasty mouth, he says, and he wants to report it toebihara, the school's safety officer. The narrator says he'll have to wait until the second term to report the incident to the school. When he gets home, he finds out that the school team is competing in a tournament. They're going to have to rescue a person who's fallen from the top of a building. They don't have time to ask the girl why she was there. She's already been rescued by someone else, and the narrator is irritated by this.
